Texas – NASP Overview

The Texas – NASP® program offers international-style target archery training integrated into 4th-12th grade physical education classes.  As a NASP® affiliate, TPWD supports the program with comprehensive training, loaner equipment, and safety protocols.

Why TPWD is committed to TX – NASP:

  • Safe environment with clear safety protocols
  • Encourages lifelong outdoor activity and personal growth

Since 2004, thousands of instructors and trainers have certified through TPWD.  Over 2,264 schools participate, and nearly 5,000 students competed in the 2025 State Championships.

Getting Started in NASP®

  1. Obtain support from school or organization leadership
  2. Engage passionate educators as instructors
  3. Register teachers and volunteers to lead lessons
  4. Order equipment, establish ranges, and start shooting!

Certification & Events

  • Get certified as a Basic Archery Instructor (BAI).  Check upcoming classes here.
  • Join the Texas NASP® State Bullseye & 3D Tournament on March 19-21, 2026, at Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio.

Divisions: Elementary (4th–5th), Middle School (6th–8th), High School (9th–12th) 

Event Highlights:

  • Top male and female archers win Genesis bows
  • Scholarships for top high school archers
  • Team trophies for top teams in each division

Qualifiers for the National Tournament:

  • First-place teams in each division
  • Top 10 male and female individual scorers from the State
  • Additional teams based on scores

Texas NASP All-State Teams

  • The annual selection of All Region and All State NASP® teams occurs each March.
  • Regional coaches select “First & Second Team All-Region” and “Honorable Mentions”
  • TAP selects “First & Second Team All-State” and “Honorable Mentions,” consisting of male and female archers from grades 9-12
