Day Use

The Visitor Center and headquarters are fully accessible with ADA parking and ramps leading to the building. The restrooms are also accessible with a large stall with handrails.

The bird blind near Prairie Pond has a ramp to the entrance and space for a wheelchair inside. The Pond Trail leading to the bird blind is a dirt path and can be navigated with a GRIT chair.

Assistive Chairs

The park has several all-terrain wheelchairs (Grit Freedom Chair), reservable from 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. daily. Two GRIT wheelchairs sitting at Mother Neff State Park headquarters Before using an assistive chair, you must sign a waiver and receive safety instructions from a staff member. We will provide a color-coded map showing the level of accessibility on each trail. Chairs can be picked up and dropped off at the ADA parking bicycle rack near the armadillo at the playscape or at the ADA parking near the campground restrooms.

Contact our park headquarters at (254) 853-9044 or email our accessibility coordinator for reservations or with any questions.

The most accessible trails are the Pond Trail and Prairie Loop Trail totaling one mile. The southern half of the Prairie Loop trail from the parking lot to the bench under the big oak tree is easily accessible with a GRIT chair. The north part of the trail may require help to navigate. These trails can be accessed from the Prairie Loop parking lot, the campground restroom parking lot, or the day use parking lot via Playground Trail.

The Tower Trail (0.5 miles one way) is more challenging and rockier, but still accessible with the GRIT chair. You may need some help navigating the GRIT chair on this trail.

The Wash Pond, Bluff and Cave trails are not accessible even with an assistive chair due to sharp drops, steep inclines and rock stairs.
