Join a ranger for a 1-mile guided walk to explore our local ecosystems as we see what plants are greening-up and flowering this spring. Learn how to ID a tree and some of our wildflowers along the way. We will also demonstrate how to use the iNaturalist app to help you ID plants.

Dinosaur Valley is home to a diverse group of insects, many of which are active at night! Stop by to examine our insect populations. Visitors are encouraged to take pictures of the bugs they see and contribute observations to iNaturalist. Stay the whole evening or stop by at different times. We will see more insect diversity the later it gets!
Join a ranger to learn how to build a successful campfire. Learn about the different structures and fuel sources used. After a demonstration, participants will get to build a campfire. We will light the structure if we are not in a burn ban at the time. Enjoy some s’more treats afterwards to celebrate your fire building success.
Join a ranger to learn the basics of fishing. Learn how to tie on a hook, cast a line, and hear about common fish found in the Paluxy River. We will have limited fishing rods and bait for participants to fish at the blue hole. Want to continue to fish after the program? Stop by our headquarters building and check out our Tackle Loaner Program. You may fish at any Texas State Park without a fishing license. State bag and length limits still apply.
Join a ranger on a walking Track Talk. We will hike a 1-mile round trip trail as we explore some of the different trackways in the Paluxy River. There is a chance to get into 1-2 ft of water and walk with the dinosaurs mid hike if the river levels are appropriate.
